How It Works

Do you have what it takes to be a drag performer? Sign up as a contestant to live your fiercest fantasy and slay the competition, while raising funds to support the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy (HMCRA). HMCRA is a public elementary school in the Castro district with the mission to empower student learning by teaching awareness, acceptance and non-violence, celebrating our diversity, achieving academic excellence, and fostering strong family-school-community connections.

Sign up to become a Contestant

Simply email your headshot and a one paragraph bio to Kylie Minono at kylieminono@yahoo.com. Contestants will each have a dedicated fundraising page on the event website, which they can share with their network. Contestants will be emailed with a link to their webpage where they can start fundraising. All contestants will compete, by fundraising, to perform in the Drag Show.

Fundraise

Won’t someone think of the children?!?!?! Get your friends, family, booty-calls, and everyone you know to vote for you by making a donation through your page. Remember, this is a fundraiser to help ensure San Francisco children receive an outstanding education with a Civil Rights focus. Donations on the website (www.canyoudrag.com) are OPEN. All cash and check donations MUST be delivered to Kylie Minono by Friday, March 15th in order to count towards your total amount raised. Contact Kylie Minono at kylieminono@yahoo.com or 415-369-7617 if you have funds to turn in. Matching donations – if your work will match your donations, please let Kylie Minono know what paperwork you need to register the Ducal Council with your work.

Compete to Perform

Only the TOP FIVE FUNDRAISERS will perform at the event, competing to win the title of Drag Superstar. And the top three fundraisers will receive extra points toward their final competition score. At the show, competitors will perform a talent of their choice (lip-synch, singing, dance, etc.) IN DRAG and be asked an interview question, both of which will be scored by our celebrity judges. Before the show, contestants will be matched with a local drag artist to have their makeup done. Contestants are responsible for purchasing their own outfits, hair, and makeup. Contact Kylie Minono at kylieminono@yahoo.com or 415-369-7617 with questions or if you need help pulling your look together. The winner of So You Think You Can Drag will be given the title of Drag Superstar, a sash, crown, and major bragging rights. There are no obligations for the winner, though we hope they will help support next year’s event.
